    Question 2: Technology

    I feel like this question is going to be a big hit. This allows others to show off what makes them unique. For now, I’m going to post the replies I get, and then evaluate people’s blogs, websites, etc. I think this question can help out tons of students, like myself, because people will be posting websites that might not have been recognized otherwise. Here we go! (I’m really excited about this one)

    @opinionbasedPE: How do you use technology when teaching Physical Education? Include your own projects, links, etc! #physed

    @geebryan: @mrrobbo has some great technology on his blog as well as @cybraryman1 …we use iPhone apps and geotag:)

    From here, I have clicked on each of the following mentioned websites!

    @mrrobbo: The PE GEEK
    Website: www.thepegeek.com

    I wish I could somehow incorporate this presentation into this blog post because this perfectly describes why “mrrobbo” has his website. His goal is to use technology to improve the quality of today’s health and physical education. If you are looking for apps for your iphone or ipad that deal with health, teaching, etc, this is the website for you. If you are looking for an excellent blog about a physical educators school year, this is also the place for you. Overall, this is a great website to learn about how any piece of technology can help enhance a Physical Education lesson.

    @cyberaryman1:
    Website: http://www.cybraryman.com/

    Since I am a college student, I decided to click on the student section of this website and scroll on over to the Physical Education section. This website is a dream come true for college students. This website provides TONS of information on where to access websites for different exercises, lesson plans, definitions, health topics, etc. I can probably spend hours on this website looking up different game activities, as well as learning more about what my major has to offer.

  • Question 1: Winning

    Question 1: Winning

    Question 1: Winning

    @opinionbasedPE: At what age is it appropriate to introduce the concepts of winning verses losing an activity, sport, etc? #physed

    @4GreatPE: a tough one as a society we start way too young with asking if they won at 6>. Not until middle school & ask did u have fun

    @RIPhysED:  Great question! In my opinion, I feel that late elementary is a good age.

    @sbarnson: just found your tweet,really like your project. I think trying to separate winning from sport is like separating… vinegar from oil. It is harder than it looks & no one wants to eat the salad when you have accomplished it.

  • About Me

    About Me

    About Me

    According to my main twitter account, I am a “quirky Physical Education major who is looking to be the sole survivor”. My obsession with being on the show Survivor is not the important part of this blog, but the quirky Physical Education major part is. Doesn’t this picture scream fun and quirky to you? Anyways, I will now ramble off some information about myself in list form… enjoy?! :

    Name: Shannon Cooke

    Age: 20

    Major: Physical Education

    School: State University of New York at Cortland

    Year (Standing): Junior

    Work: Rolling River Day Camp

    Why Physical Education?: Every summer since ninth grade, I’ve been working at a day camp. Over the years, this job has made me realize that kids somehow always manage to put a smile on my face. One of the moments I knew that studying Physical Education was the right path for me was while at camp after my freshman year of college. I haven’t taken any teaching classes yet, but I had to teach in some of my sports affiliated classes. At this point I was still unsure of how great my teaching skills would be in the future. Anyways, I was on the soccer field with my fourth grade girls group hoping to play soccer. They had zero motivation to do so. I introduced some lacrosse sticks and the children were instantly excited to try something new. From there I gathered my group in a circle and taught them some of the basic skills of the game. They were eager to learn, and I was excited to teach. It is the little cheesy moments like these that make me happy at the end of the day.

    Summer Project

    Hello and welcome to the “Opinion Based PE” blog. This is my so called summer project in the works. For Starters you will need to do the following:

    Step 1) Look at the bottom right hand side of this blog.

    Step 2) Click the “Twitter” link. This will lead you my twitter, opinionbasedPE

    Step 3) Follow my twitter so you can help out with my blog by answering the questions I post. The questions that receive a substantial amount of feedback will be posted in my blog.

    So Shannon… Why are you making this blog?: Great question whoever is reading this! From my two years at Cortland I have been taught that in order to succeed I need to stand out in some way, shape or form. This means that I need to be active in as many clubs as possible, start my resume and portfolio as soon as possible, and get to get myself noticed. With that being said, I’m curious about other peoples opinions when it comes to Physical Education. What made them decide this was their passion? What got them there? I enjoy learning about other people’s lives just as much as I like to share parts of mine. Since I am on the computer whenever I am not working out enjoying a beautiful day with friends, I figured I can use technology to learn more about my major, and what others think about it. I want to gain more knowledge and learn from people just like me. Now my question to you is how hard can that be?
